It was once the case that wall-to-wall carpet was the automatic choice for living room flooring, but that is no longer the case. In fact, it’s becoming more common to see most other types of floors in a living room, as consumers have grown tired of having to maintain carpet or keeping it looking new. Summertime is rapidly approaching and now is the time where homeowners are tackling various projects around the home, and new flooring is often on that list. So the question is, “what is the best diy flooring?”
It certainly depends on the situation. There are a lot of questions to ask, mainly where is the flooring going to be installed? Continue reading It’s A DIY Flooring Kind Of Season
The stories of finding hidden treasures at garage sales have tantalized most women and haunted most men for years. Women love “Garage Sailing” (defined as: a combination of going to a sale and setting sail for good deals in a car all day. Go ahead webster’s better get this added.)
Men typically hate “Garage Sailing”. But the closing technique used by most women is the often told (but never actually verified) story they read about a random couple long ago who had set sail one weekend to find that perfect garage sale deal and went home with an original Picasso or Monet valued at $50 million dollars that they traded some old socket wrenches for.
Basically the closing line goes a little something like this, “Honey I understand you want to stay home and watch sports, nap and pass gas – but if you don’t join me on this adventure it could cost you $50 million dollars.” That is enough to get any guy off the couch.
Once the adventuresome duo sets out it is clear that the word GARAGE and GARBAGE are closely linked and probably not by accident. There is a toaster for 25 cents. It doesn’t work, but has a really nice 3 prong cord and clearly the cord is worth 25 cents – better take that home. Then someone spots some bit of nostalgia that tally up another few scheckles to the day’s financial investment. However, not unlike the Picasso story there has been more than one tale of finding antique area rugs which are handmade of wool and silk blends that date back more than 100 years ago.
These rugs are not commonly sold at garage sales, but when they are it can be an amazing opportunity to find something totally unique. Today of course there is no need to put on an adventure spirit to find really cool area rugs. Rugs today are so affordable and so well made it is easier to skip the garage sale experience and let the guy sleep on the couch and let the gal go get a makeover because you did your rug shopping online.
You can get incredible values online by rug shopping especially on the weekends. The online rug stores are very busy Monday through Friday. This is because people do their personal shopping at work, which is an entirely different blog entry. However, on the weekend most places have limited or no staff, but to maintain sales momentum they often will put coupons or weekend only offers to entice buyers to make the purchase online without sales staff assistance. This save everybody money. So rather than chasing the fantasy of finding the perfect rug or for that matter an original Picasso why not shop for your area rugs online and save yourself both time and money. Going from Rugs to Riches is easier than you think!
Studies about hard surface flooring like hardwood and laminate have shown that most people put a rug down on a new floor in the first 10 days following their purchase.
However after having the opportunity to study flooring purchases from hundred of thousands of shoppers covering hundreds of millions of feet of floors there is a stark reality: MORE THAN 40% of PEOPLE DO NOT GET A RUG DESPITE ALL OF THE BENEFITS.
Firstly new flooring is beautiful, but rugs enhance that beauty they don’t detract.
Secondly rugs offer some protection to some of those new floors and can be a perfect accent.
And third – rugs are really affordable! This is the dirty little secret that people don’t fully realize. Rugs are much more affordable than you think.
In a blind study when 5 rugs are put in front of consumers the prices that consumer guess for the rugs is often 2 times more than they really are in some cases 20x more. That’s right they guess the rug retail is $4,000 and it is closer to $200.
Part of the reason is because high quality rugs are available online for lower and lower costs. In the old days if you walk into Macy’s for a rug you could expect to pay $2,000 – $4,000. However, today those exact same rugs which are still priced like that in Macys and other retail stores can be found online at discounters like ONLINE AREA RUGS at a fraction of the price because they have low overhead and direct ship from rug warehouses to homes, offices, hotels or wherever the customer requires.
Because of this massive shift toward consumer choice you have the ability to change rugs every few years instead of thinking of them as heirlooms.
We do want to be clear that there are still heirloom quality rugs and a very high end niche available in the market, but it is such a tiny fraction of the market it isn’t worth wasting time talking about. That segment is basically crazy rich people who want something totally unique and part of the story is that they paid $150,000 for this rug. That same rug could be custom made with the same exact specification for 90% less if someone wanted to.
So the question is why haven’t you found a perfect rug or replaced that ratty rug from a couple years ago. It’s easier than you think. By the way, rugs are great to give as gifts. Your friends or family will appreciate the lasting beauty and immediate impact of adding a rug to their home. And you don’t have to tell them the rug they think cost you $2000.00 – was only $400 – with Free Shipping and No tax. 😉
Although shipping times are becoming more and more tough at this time of year, if you are still needing a gift idea I suggest checking out the clearance section in the rug department for some really great values. It is very common to find rugs here not just below our cost, but WAY below cost. We would rather let our customers grab a once-in-a-lifetime deal than throw them out or toss them to a wholesaler so take a peek and good luck to one and all. (All rugs subject to first come first served order fulfillment.)
If you are cool – check out these rugs – when I see the total collections these guys offer the styles blow my mind. This is true art for the floor. (if you are not cool that is ok – move on to the next post.)
